Reputation is a number associated with an account which attempts to quantify the merit of a user’s recent contributions to a colony. Unlike tokens, Reputation cannot be transferred between addresses.
A person will earn Reputation in a colony any time the colony pays the account in its native token.
In a simple payment, the receiving account will earn Reputation 1:1 with native tokens received.
In a task, the Reputation received will be dependent on the Manager’s rating:
- 3 stars = 1.5:1 Reputation to native tokens
- 2 stars = 1:1 Reputation to native tokens
- 1 star = punished Reputation and no reward.
In order to keep Reputation contextual to your recent contributions, reputation decays over time with a half-life of roughly three months (calculated gradually over each block by Reputation miners).
In the initial version of Colony, Reputation functions as a social metric that quantifies a user’s recent contributions at a glance. In future iterations of Colony, Reputation will be used to enable more meritocratic features like Reputation-mediated voting and dispute resolution, Reputation-mediated rewards distributions, and Reputation-mediated permissions.
By Colony standards, the only person who's allowed to have Bad Reputation and still have influence, is Joan Jett.
